Photo Journal: South African Aids doctor
New mum
This HIV-positive mother has just given birth to a little girl.

She was treated with nevirapine but also managed to borrow the money ($670) for a Caesarean section to further reduce the chances of passing the virus on to her baby.

She won't find out whether her baby is infected or not until the child gets a routine HIV test at 18 months.
