Latin America

More than a third of the 1.7m adults with HIV in Latin America are now women. But the epidemic is still centred largely on men who have sex with men and injecting drug users. Belize, Honduras and Guyana have the highest prevalence levels. Brazil, however, has by far the most people living with HIV. Despite a relatively successful education campaign among the general population, infection levels of 60% have been reported among drug users in some Brazilian cities.
