DESCRIPTION: Ireland

Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern's Fianna Fail party suffered a major setback in the elections, losing two seats. It nonetheless remains the biggest group with 32% of the vote. Sinn Fein, the Irish Republican Army-linked party, looked set to win its first two seats in the European parliament. Counting continues.
