Hungary's conservative opposition of Fidesz and MDF picked up a total of 13 seats, against 11 for the ruling Socialist-Liberal coalition. The parties' election campaigns focused on domestic issues such as the country's economic performance, charges of corruption and the health service, rather than European affairs. As a result of the Hungarian elections, in which a 30-year-old gypsy was elected, Europe's 5 million strong Roma community will for the first time be represented in the European parliament.
