Forest development plan approved

24 July 07 08:35 GMT

Plans for a new visitor development at Glentress Forest near Peebles have been approved by Scottish Borders Council.

The Forestry Commission's mountain biking and walking centre already attracts about 300,000 visitors a year.

It is hoped the new viewing centre with cafe, shops and changing facilities could take the figure to nearly 500,000.

The development should be completed in summer 2008 to act as a "gateway" to the Tweed Valley Forest Park.
