No deal between oil giant Total and Shetland Council

16 March 10 18:47 GMT

French oil giant Total has failed to reach a deal with Shetland Islands Council over plans to build a gas processing plant.

The firm has also postponed its planned announcement on the £2.5bn project to import gas from west of Shetland via the islands to the Scottish mainland.

UK Energy Minister Lord Hunt was due to fly to the islands to sign the field development plan on Thursday.

Talks are understood to be ongoing between lawyers on both sides.
