About £10,000 has been raised for charity in this year's annual Boxing Day charity plunge in the North Sea at Aberdeen, organisers have said.

The Aberdeen Lions Club Nippy Dipper event attracted 170 people.

They included swimmer David Carry, who was part of Team GB at the Beijing Olympics this year.

Chris Southworth from Aberdeen Lions Club, which organises the event, said people had been raising money for a variety of charities.

"People chose their own charities, we just provide the framework. They have a great time," he said.

Participants can also raise funds for the Lions Club's designated charity, the Lord Provost's Charitable Trust.
