Town's Locarno to be transformed

13 February 08 09:17 GMT

A redevelopment plan has been agreed for the Grade II listed Locarno and Old Town Hall in Swindon.

A design by developers Bach Homes, which includes 129 flats, was given the go-ahead by Swindon Borough Council.

Restaurants, a registry office and bars will also be built with construction scheduled to begin in September.

Managing director of Bach Homes, Steve Rosier, said: "The Old Town Hall will become a restaurant while the clock tower becomes a cafe."

The Victorian town hall has been empty for years and was badly damaged by fire in both 2003 and 2004.
