A war memorial in a County Durham village is to be taken away to be refurbished and then relocated.
The memorial will be placed on a new plinth in Sacriston village centre in the summer as part of the village's regeneration scheme.
A total of £12,000 was contributed by Warrior developments to fund the move.
The new plinth will be inscribed with poetry written by a local resident chosen through a competition, which will be judged in June.
A poem already inscribed on the plinth will remain.
The current war memorial site is under private redevelopment. Durham County Council agreed to oversee the monument relocation when no owner could be found.
The council said the decision to remove the memorial was taken after consultation with residents in 2008.
Once the clean-up and relocation are complete, there will be a rededication service.
