Plans to build a new Tesco supermarket in a County Durham town - creating 250 jobs - have been unveiled.
The store, which would have 600 car parking spaces, as well as a petrol station and cafe, is earmarked for Genesis Way in Consett, County Durham.
It would replace the current Tesco in Delves Lane.
It is also hoped it will be a "green" store with energy efficient features, including a timber frame and a combined heat and power unit.
Tesco's corporate affairs manager, Doug Wilson, said: "We are delighted to announce this plan when Consett, like many other towns, has been hit by a significant number of job losses in recent months.
"As well as new jobs we are providing local people with a fantastic new store with extensive ranges of food, clothing and electrical goods."
Tesco is holding a public exhibition of the plans on 16 and 17 December at Derwentside District Council civic hall, in Meadomsley Road, Consett.
