More than 45,000 people have used Sunderland's multi-million pound swimming pool since it opened its doors last month.
The £20m Sunderland Aquatic Centre, next to the Stadium of Light, boasts an Olympic-size pool with 10 lanes.
A city council spokesman said 47,079 had visited since opening on 18 April.
The figures compare well to similar facilities around the UK, such as Edinburgh's Royal Commonwealth Pool which attracts about 50,000 per month.
Cllr Mel Speding, Sunderland City Council's portfolio holder for Culture and Leisure, said: "We're off the blocks and onto a good start as thousands of people are dipping their toes and liking what they see at the only 50 metre pool in the North East."
It is hoped that the 50m pool, the only one in north-east England, will be used as an Olympic training site.
The centre also boasts a 25-metre diving pool and seating for 500 spectators.
