Town's 'big wheel' open to public

5 December 09 14:19 GMT

A giant observation wheel has opened to the public in Middlesbrough.

The Wheel - the only one of its kind in the north east of England - has been installed in the town's Centre Square and will remain for several months.

The 40m-high (130ft) wheel has 30 glass-sided and climate-controlled observation pods, each of which can carry up to eight people.

The attraction has created about 20 jobs. Rides lasting 12 minutes cost £5 for adults and £3 for children.
