Texts alert community to crimes

26 July 08 11:30 GMT

Areas of east Surrey which have lower police coverage will be made aware of crimes and suspicious incidents via a text alert system.

County Watch has been introduced by police as a way of communicating with the rural community in Mole Valley.

The system allows officers to instantly notify those signed up to the scheme with details of crimes.

Rural affairs officer Pc Jo Morris said "geographically hard to reach groups" would be easier to communicate with.

Nearly 100 people have signed up to the scheme.
