Church bell-ringer marks 80 years

23 February 09 17:57 GMT

A retired farmer is celebrating bell-ringing for 80 years at the same village church in Suffolk.

Albert Driver, 94, started ringing bells at St Mary's in Redgrave in 1929.

The great-grandfather, who lives in the village, said he would carry on his hobby for as long as possible and did not think his record would be beaten.

"There's nobody to carry it on because the youngsters aren't interested. There are so many other things for them to do," he said.

"Also, not many people have the health to carry on as long as I have," Mr Driver added.
