Steel city wheel extends its stay

6 January 10 19:16 GMT

Sheffield's giant ferris wheel is to remain in the city for another year after a bid to extend its stay was approved.

The 173ft (53m) high wheel was erected on Fargate in July.

The wheel, known as the Wheel of Sheffield, is similar to those in London and Manchester. It has 42 pods, each capable of carrying eight people.

The company behind the wheel said it was "delighted" to have been given the extension.

Andy Millichamp, of Great City Attractions, said: "We are extremely delighted to be given an extension to remain at the top of Fargate for a further 12 months.

"The Wheel of Sheffield has been a huge success and we are pleased to be able to continue working alongside Sheffield City Council and the city centre businesses to help support this wonderful city centre."
