Police name woman killed by train

An 83-year-old woman killed when she was hit by a train on a level crossing in Norfolk has been named by police.

Margaret Thomson from Attleborough was killed using an uncontrolled crossing at Leys Lane in the town.

A friend with her escaped uninjured but Mrs Thomson was struck by a train that was travelling at about 75mph (120km).

A British Transport Police spokesman said the incident, involved an East Midlands Trains service from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, to Norwich.

British Transport Police said Mrs Thomson was with a friend and a dog when the incident, which involved the 0706 GMT Mansfield Woodhouse to Norwich, occurred at about 1030 GMT on Wednesday.
