Dentist to open in commuter town

10 January 09 17:08 GMT

People living in Bradley Stoke in South Gloucestershire will soon not have to travel out of the town to visit a dentist's surgery.

The two-chair surgery will be located on the first floor of the new Willow Brook shopping centre.

Councillor Jon Williams said it marked an end to the long-running campaign to get an NHS dentist in the town.

"Many have had to travel miles to get to a dentist. This will be a relief to find one on their doorstep," he said.

It is thought the new surgery will start advertising for patients from the end of February prior to opening in April.

A spokeswoman for South Gloucestershire Primary Healthcare Trust said: "Under the first year of the contract the new dental practice will deliver 14,500 units of dental activity, dependent on how much dental work each patient may need."

The contract is worth £320,000 per year and has been awarded to Phoenix Dental which currently has other contracts with South Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust.
