12 November 08 14:30 GMT

The Museum of Bristol is one step closer to completion after a topping out ceremony.

Bristol City Council leader Helen Holland tightened the final bolts on the steel structure for the roof extension at the ceremony on Wednesday.

Building work for the £26m project is expected to be finished by late 2009 after which it will be fitted out.

Once open in 2011 the museum will have three galleries with objects and stories illustrating the city's past.

It is being built on the site of the former Industrial Museum on Prince's Wharf on Wapping Road.
