New chairman of Essex County Council named

The new chairman of Essex County Council has been named.

Rodney Bass, who represents Heybridge & Tollesbury, has been appointed to fill the role after spending two years as vice-chairman of the council.

He has been a member of the county council since 1997 and is chairman of the Essex Pension Fund Board and Investment Steering Committee.

Councillor Kay Twitchen, the member for Billericay & Burstead, has been appointed as the new vice-chairman.

Peter Martin, the leader of the council, said: "Councillor Bass has been a passionate representative of Essex for many years, and I am sure he will do a wonderful job as chairman."
