Nine men in bid to be Jersey's new senator

26 May 10 07:12 GMT

Nine people will contest the by-election for St Helier senator in the States of Jersey in June.

The all-male list of candidates was announced at a special meeting on Tuesday evening.

The nominations, which were presided over by the parish constables or their parish representatives, were:

Gerard Baudain, Nick Le Cornu, Francis Le Gresley, Philip Maguire, Gino Risoli, Patrick Ryan, Geoff Southern, Stuart Syvret and Peter Whorrall.

Islanders will go to the polls on Wednesday 16 June.

The by-election follows last month's automatic removal of Stuart Syvret, who had been absent from the island for six months.
