French trawlers detained off Jersey coast

12 May 10 13:55 GMT

French trawlers have been ordered into a Jersey port by government fishery protection officers.

Two boats were intercepted working near to Jersey's south east coast, senior fisheries inspector, Mike Smith, said.

Mr Smith said officers on a fishery protection vessel boarded the boats, and after initial inquiries, ordered them into St Helier.

The vessels have been detained in the port while further inquiries into their actions are made.
