Increase in island postal charges

6 May 09 14:20 GMT

Jersey Post has increased the cost of its postal stamps for the first time in two years.

The price of a standard local stamp has gone up by two pence to 37p, while the cost of posting a letter to the UK has risen to 42p - an increase of 3p.

Ian Ridgeway from Jersey Post said volumes of mail were falling and the company had been making a loss on its delivery and collection services.

Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority approved the increase.
