Victory for campaign to move Guernsey war memorial

21 May 10 14:38 GMT

Supporters of a campaign to move the Vale War Memorial in Guernsey are celebrating after ratepayers on the island voted in their favour.

The relocation, in front of the Vale Douzaine Room, will cost £6000.

The memorial, which honours those who died in both world wars, currently stands on the corner of Vale Avenue and La Route du Braye.

However, many Guernsey residents felt the busy junction made it too difficult to reach.

Bill Cohu, a Douzaine member, accepted that the memorial's location was "a matter of opinion" but said he felt the new site would be "much nicer".
