Treasury minister to leave States

29 June 09 14:11 GMT

Treasury and Resources Minister Charles Parkinson has announced that he is leaving politics at the next election.

The announcement comes after the States rejected his suggestion to borrow money externally to pay for Guernsey's capital projects.

Mr Parkinson told BBC Guernsey that he was leaving in 2012 for a combination of "personal and political reasons".

He has criticised overspends by the States on projects including a new jetty and airport terminal.
