Pipe work shuts off island water

23 April 09 14:44 GMT

Residents living in parts of Alderney are without water supplies for the second time this week.

Braye Street, the Harbour area, Newtown, Church Street and the hospital will be among the areas affected.

Supplies, which were switched off at 1430 BST, should be reconnected at about 1730 BST.

Essential maintenance is being carried out to the main pipeline which supplies water to much of the island from a storage tank at Trigale.

The States of Alderney Water Board said it was installing a new valve and water meter to help it better understand and manage the island's water demands.

The equipment will also help to identify and locate leaks.
