Man is arrested after sex assault

A 68-year-old man has been arrested in relation to a serious sexual assault against a 17-year-old girl in Swansea.

The man, from the Cwmbwrla area of the city, is being held at Swansea central police station where he is being questioned by police.

Detectives have made a fresh appeal to speak to a taxi driver who took the girl and a man from the Kingsway to the Cwmbwrla area on Friday.

Officers said the taxi driver could have important information.

The teenager, described as white, 4ft 11in (1.5m), of slight build, with shoulder-length brown hair with blond highlights, and wearing a red hooded Adidas top with three white stripes down the outside of each arm and light blue jeans, shared an "older-type London cab" with the man between 0145 and 0300 BST on Friday.

'Crucial'

The taxi was taken from the Kingsway in the city centre, near the NCP car park.

The man she shared the cab with was white, approximately 60-70 years old, of average height, medium build and with what was described as a beer belly, with white hair thinning on top and a white moustache.

He was wearing a blue shirt, black waist-length jacket and dark trousers.

Police said: "We are anxious to trace the taxi driver who conveyed this couple to the Cwmbwrla area of Swansea as he may hold information which is crucial to solving this incident.

"We are appealing for any taxi driver who has conveyed anyone during this time to Compass Street to come forward."

Anyone with information can contact police on 01792 456999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
