Burst pipe closes town's cinema

Will Smith in I Am Legend Film fans in Llanelli have been left out in the cold during the holidays as a burst heating pipe has shut the town's cinema and theatre complex.

Emergency repairs are being carried out to the central heating system at Llanelli Entertainment Centre.

Managers at the council-run centre said it should re-open for the start of the pantomime season on 11 January.

Portable heaters are being used to allow the cast of Robinson Crusoe to continue to rehearse backstage.

But all cinema screenings - that were set to include the sci-fi thriller I Am Legend starring Will Smith and the family film Alvin and the Chipmunks - have been cancelled.

Carmarthenshire Council's arts manager Phil Alder said engineers had been on site during the festive holiday but they anticipated repairs would take another week.

He apologised but said he hoped customers would understand that they were carrying out the work "to ensure their comfort is guaranteed for the pantomime season and the remainder of winter".
