Search for missing prisoner, 22

Christopher John Akers

Police are searching for a 22-year-old man who has gone missing from an open prison.

Officers say Christopher John Akers absconded from Prescoed Prison in Usk, Monmouthshire, some time between 1930 and 2200 BST on Thursday.

Akers, who is not a sex offender, was serving a sentence for robbery. He is described as 5ft 10in, of stocky build with blue eyes and short brown hair.

Gwent Police say they are working with the prison service to try to find him.

He has two tattoos, one on his right lower leg and one on the knuckles of his right hand.

Police advise the public not to approach Akers but to contact them with any information about his whereabouts.

It is believed he may be in the Barry area where he has contacts.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
