Baby left in train station toilet

Bristol Temple Meads station

A young mother has been charged after an eight-month-old baby boy was found abandoned in a railway station toilet.

British Transport Police said the child was found uninjured in a ladies toilet at Bristol Temple Meads station on 14 November.

The boy is now under the supervision of Rhondda Cynon Taf social services.

The mother, 25, who is believed to be from Rhondda but was living in Devon, has been charged with exposing a child to danger and has been bailed.

She is due to appear in South Devon Magistrates' Court on 4 December.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said the baby was found at around 2130 GMT.

"The mother of the child is 25 and was living in Devon," he added.

"She was arrested in Torquay and has been charged with exposing a child to danger (Section 27 of the Offences against the Person Act 1861). "

A spokeswoman for Rhondda Cynon Taf council said: "We understand that the police are currently investigating an incident where a baby was found at Bristol Temple Meads.

"The baby was taken into the care of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council last Friday evening and we can reassure your readers that the baby is safe and being well cared for.

"Any further comment would be inappropriate at this time".
