Man is wanted over train assault

Picture of man police want to speak to about assault on train

Officers have released a picture of a man they want to speak to about an assault on a train ticket collector.

The incident took place as the 1938 Cardiff to Swansea train pulled into Pyle railway station near Bridgend on Saturday, 18 October.

British Transport Police said the ticket collector was violently shoved in the face and grabbed by the throat.

Det Insp Mark Cleland said it was an "unprovoked assault on a man who was simply doing his job".

"The staff member entered the carriage as the train was pulling into Pyle railway station," he said.

"When he asked for tickets a male passenger violently shoved him in the face and grabbed him by the throat."

Officers would like to speak to a man, believed to be a Cardiff City fan, who got off the train at Pyle and left the scene before officers arrived.

"I am asking anyone with any information about this incident, or anyone who recognises the man pictured in the CCTV image, to come forward and talk to us," said Det Insp Cleland.

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111
