Woman hit by car 'critically ill'

A 45-year old woman is in a critical condition in hospital after she was hit by a car, say Gwent Police.

A man, 19, from Bettws in Newport who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at an accident has been bailed.

A Peugeot 106 was heading to Newport when the incident happened at 1635 GMT on Monday in Llantarnam Road, Cwmbran near Llantarnam School.

Police are asking witnesses to call them on 01633 838 111.
