Farming stores shed 20 Welsh jobs

Around 20 people have lost their jobs after a farm machinery firm went into administration.

Burgess Agricultural Engineers Ltd had two stores in north Wales - at Llangefni and Denbigh - and a further five stores in England.

Four of their English stores have been taken over by FHB holdings, saving 46 jobs. But the two north Wales stores, and one in Staffordshire, have closed.

Administrator Robert Rotherford said the "economic recession" was to blame.

The company's stores at Llangefni and Denbigh employed around 10 people each.

Around 15 were employed at Barton under Needwood.

"The reason behind this is the economic recession," said Mr Rotherford, from administrators Parkin S Booth, Llandudno.

"Farmers don't have the money to spend."

Mr Rotherford also confirmed that the staff who had lost their jobs had not been paid by the company this month.

He added that they can expect to receive the wages due to them from a centralised government fund, set up to deal with companies that go into administration.
