TV 'Last Choir' school record CD

Ysgol Glanaethwy

A Welsh choir pipped to the post in the BBC's Last Choir Standing television programme have recorded a CD.

Ysgol Glanaethwy's album coincides with the Bangor school's 18th anniversary, and includes some songs from the show.

Fans who followed the choir's progress will recognised numbers such as Adiemus, O Fortuna, and Circle of Life.

"It's hard to believe that 18 years have passed since we started Ysgol Glanaethwy, but here we are," said school founder Cefin Roberts.

"This album feels like an appropriate way of looking back on previous productions such as our very first show Magdalen and introducing some of the current students' favourites," he added.

The school were beaten by fellow Welsh entrants Only Men Aloud! from Cardiff in the final of the Saturday night BBC One talent contest in August.

Ioan Pollard from Dyffryn Nantlle, a member of the youth choir, said the Last Choir Standing competition was a "brilliant experience".

"It was hard work, but it was worth it," he said.

"We'd all get on the bus from Bangor at seven in the morning, get to the studio at lunchtime and practice every song three or four times in the afternoon.

"Then it'd be an early night and back into the studio for nine, a dress run in the afternoon and the live show about six o'clock."

All the choirs got on well together, and some of choirs had kept in touch, he said.

"The girls especially liked Only Men Aloud of course, and the boys liked ACM," he added.

Ysgol Glanaethwy will put on a concert at the Wales Millenium Centre on 29 November to celebrate the school's 18th birthday.

The album goes on sale on 1 December.
