Man jailed for stolen parts sale

A man has been jailed for 10 months for selling parts from a stolen car on the auction site eBay.

Craig Newton, from Glan Conwy, Conwy admitted handling stolen property at Caernarfon Crown Court.

The 31-year-old sold parts from a dismantled hand-built car which was stolen from a car park in Llanberis.

The couple who owned the car were on holiday in Gwynedd and had to cut short their stay returning home to Scotland on the train.

Newton was caught after two of the dismantled car parts were sold over the internet via eBay.

The court also heard how he made £721 after selling a dozen items from a stolen 1967 Lotus Elan which was taken from a garage.

Prosecutor Dafydd Roberts also told the court how Newton had made £759 by selling two chainsaws and two hedge-trimmers over the same internet site.

Unemployed Newton had 33 offences on his criminal record and was jailed after he admitted handling stolen property.

Judge Merfyn Hughes QC told him: "You were providing your services as a regular outlet for those bringing you the items. The thieves haven't been brought to justice."
