Pub burglars flee with its safe

Caersws on map

Burglars have fled with thousands of pounds after forcing their way into a pub and stealing its safe.

The thieves broke into the Unicorn in Caersws near Newtown, Powys and forcibly entered an office in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Later police were called to the Mochdre industrial estate at Newtown, five miles from Caersws, where the safe was recovered. £4,500 was missing from it.

Police say they believe the thieves smashed open the safe.

They were alerted after loud banging was heard on the estate at around 0430 BST.

Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious on the industrial estate in the early hours to come forward.
