A boy has been taken to hospital with hypothermia after hitting his head when a boat capsized during a school trip.
He was one of 20 pupils from King Edward's School, Bath, in three rigid inflatable boats when one turned over on Tuesday night.
The boat turned over on the Mussel Bank just outside the Menai Strait - which separates Anglesey from mainland Wales - on the Caernarfon Bar.
The boy was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital, where he is "comfortable".
Three instructors from Plas Menai National Watersports Centre were with the children, who were on a diving trip, according to the school's website.
Helicopter rescue
The alarm was raised by mobile phone with the Llandwrog Coastguard Rescue Team and the inshore lifeboat from Beaumaris called out.
The Plas Menai staff reported that the boy was drifting in and out of consciousness after hitting his head and a rescue helicopter was sent out to the scene.
He was then airlifted to safety from the beach at Abermenai Point, a spit of sand opposite Fort Belan, and taken to hospital.
Barry Priddis, watch manager at Holyhead Coastguard, said: "Conditions on Caernarfon Bar were quite rough according to local crews.
"The capsized rigid inflatable boat has not yet been recovered but full details are now held with the coastguard as to its location."
