Police Christmas cards for crooks

The cards contain a poem reminding the recipient that "if you're tempted into crime, expect to do some festive time".

Deputy Chief Constable Clive Wolfendale said the cards were a "gentle reminder" about the season of goodwill.

The force said 500 cards would go to "prolific criminals" and to people with an Anti-social Behaviour Order (Asbo).

"At this season of goodwill, Keep in mind north Wales 'old Bill'.

Our eyes and ears are everywhere, Up your street and in your square.

Remember not to drink and drive, Don't forget Arrive Alive.

And if you're tempted into crime, Expect to do some festive time.

Please keep on the straight and narrow.

The poem inside each card

The plan was revealed as North Wales Police announced the winners of their annual children's Christmas card competition on Tuesday.

The poem inside was written by members of the Conwy Valley Poetry Society.

It tells would-be offenders that the "eyes and ears" of the police are "everywhere" and advises that acts of crime could result in spending the festive break in prison.

Deputy chief constable Clive Wolfendale said the cards aimed to act as a crime deterrent in the season of goodwill.

"This is aimed at prolific criminals, those we see on a regular basis throughout the year," he said.

"There will be focused policing operations with additional staff, so there will be no escape for those who are intent on being on the wrong side of the law and spoiling this time of year for others," he added.
