Author's hopes for estate movie

An author is trying to raise money to produce a feature film about the estate where he grew up.

David Hughes, who writes as Ambrose Conway, has written two books about the Reso estate in Rhyl, Denbighshire.

Now based in Nottingham, the former teacher is hoping to attract funding to train young people to produce a film based on the books.

A promotional trailer is to be screened at Rhyl Adventure Playground on Thursday.

Mr Hughes based his Reso books on his experiences there as a youngster in the 1960s and 1970s.

As part of a drive to regenerate the seaside town, £30,000 of funding has been awarded to produce a promotional trailer.

It is now hoped the trailer will generate enough interest and money to pay for a feature film.

Mr Hughes and others involved in the project hope to use the money to train local young people to make the film.

He said he hoped that Rhyl could be "re-branded" because the area "has everything going for it," despite any problems.

He would also like to see the town establish a media centre which would help improve the potential of those young people known as "Neets" - not in education, employment or training.
