Choir aims for top with Dame Vera

Fron Male Voice Choir

Dame Vera Lynn is challenging for the Christmas number one spot with the help of a Welsh male voice choir.

Her most popular track, We'll Meet Again, will be released later this month blending the original vocals with multi-platinum selling Fron choir.

Dame Vera said: "I'm amazed this is possible. It's wonderful."

Froncysyllte Male Voice choir will perform the song at the Royal Albert Hall Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, in Dame Vera's presence.

The track features the vocals from 1939, when forces sweetheart Dame Vera was just 22. Her version of White Christmas, recorded in 1942, is also on the release.

Fron choir formed in 1947 as a community project to help alleviate the suffering caused by World War II.

Choir founder member Dennis Williams said: "Vera was my sweetheart during the war, I was a young boy suffering from all the emotions of such a conflict.

"They dropped bombs in our lovely Vale of Llangollen. As kids we were scared running home from school with our gasmasks.

"To have someone sing beautiful songs of better times to come was just what we all wanted."

Dame Vera, who kept up the spirits of millions of soldiers during World War II, became the oldest living artist to top the UK album chart in September at the age of 92 with her album, We'll Meet Again - The Very Best of Vera Lynn.

The album was originally released to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the declaration of war.

Competition will be stiff for the Christmas number one with the winner of ITV talent show X Factor expected to be in the running.

We'll Meet Again will be on Fron choir's new album, Memory Lane, which is released on 23 November, the same day as the single.
