Views sought on nautical bridge

Residents are being asked for their opinions on a proposed £4m bridge for walkers and cyclists in Denbighshire.

The bridge spanning 80m (262ft) across Foryd Harbour at Rhyl has been given a nautical design, and two walkways will lift to allow boats to pass.

Plans are displayed in the town's Wellington Road Community Centre.

Denbighshire council said it was "really important that local people have their say on the developments" and help it "shape" Rhyl's future.

Contractor Dawnus and engineer Gifford have been awarded the contract by the council, Welsh Assembly Government and sustainable transport charity Sustrans.

It is expected to be ready by the middle of 2011.

It is funded by the Big Lottery Fund through Sustrans and European money.

Councillor David Thomas, the cabinet lead member for regeneration, said: "This really is an exciting time for the town of Rhyl and we want local people to play an active part in its redevelopment.

"Enhancing facilities at the Foryd Harbour and constructing the new bridge would provide a major boost to the local tourism industry, will help make the area more attractive to residents and visitors and will encourage inward investment.

"It's really important that local people have their say on the developments and help the council and its partners shape the future direction of development in Rhyl."

The plans will also be on display at Kinmel Bay Community Resource Centre on Tuesday, 14 July (1300 - 1900 BST) and on Wednesday, 15 July, at Rhyl Town Hall (1800 - 2000 BST).
