The second of six pieces of public art commemorating influential women in Wales has been unveiled.

The latest sculpture is of Mary Ashby-Lewis, who spent 60 years running the Llanerchaeron estate in Aberaeron, Ceredigion, in the 19th Century.

The art work will stand in the estate's gardens, which are now owned and run by the National Trust.

The first piece of art of fashion designer Laura Ashley was unveiled two weeks ago near Welshpool, Powys.

Six sculptures on the theme Woman of Substance are being unveiled in Wales over the coming months as part of a project organised by The Gateway Gardens Trust charity.

Other women to be featured include children's author Beatrix Potter and actress Sian Phillips.

The sculptures are the work of artist Katie Scarlett Howard who has a studio near Mold in Flintshire.

She said the women featured stood out for their strength of character, determination and ultimate success in their chosen endeavours.
