More volunteers are needed to join a police station inspection group in Powys and Carmarthenshire.
The Dyfed-Powys Police Authority group makes unannounced checks at stations on people's treatment in custody and the conditions they are held in.
There are a few vacancies available, but people are needed most in mid and south west Wales.
Volunteers would make two visits a month, work in pairs and be given full training and travelling expenses.
Ken Howells, chair of community engagement and external relations for the police authority, said: "This role is important because it not only offers protection to people in custody, but also helps to build confidence between the police and the communities they serve."
People working in the criminal justice system, such as solicitors, police officers or magistrates, are not allowed to apply, but Mr Howells said the work was ideal for young people interested in the police or the law.
Applicants must be over 18 and live, work or study in the police authority's area.
