Post Office closes another branch

The Post Office is to close another of its branches in mid Wales taking the region's total to 20.

The village service in Trefeglwys, near Llanidloes, Powys, will be replaced by an outreach service at the local pub.

Industry watchdog Postwatch said the decision to cut the service was taken following a review of a recent consultation process.

The Post Office announced the closure of 11 branches in June and a further eight in July.

In a statement, Postwatch said: "Following a six-week re-consultation on post office closures in central Wales, Post Office Ltd has announced its decision on the replacement outreach service for Trefeglwys.

"Postwatch scrutinised Post Office Ltd's proposal, encouraged customers to engage in the consultation process, and worked to ensure Post Office Ltd took into account responses submitted.

'Red Lion'

"Following representations by Postwatch, customers, and other stakeholders, Post Office Ltd has decided to proceed with a partner service at Trefeglwys.

"Post Office services will in the future be available from the Red Lion public house."

In July, the Post Office said nearly 99% of people would see no change to their existing branch or would be able to find another within a mile.
