Man, 79, killed in head-on crash

A 79-year-old motorist from Llandrindod Wells has died after a head-on road crash near Knighton in Powys.

The driver of the second car, a 22-year-old woman, was airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with leg and hip injuries.

The man who died was Frank Richard Jones from Llanyre near Llandrindod Wells. An inquest will be held.

The crash happened on the A4113 Knighton to Ludlow road on Friday afternoon.

An appeal has been made for witnesses, after the road was closed for several hours.

Mr Jones' Renault Megane was in collision with a Ford Fiesta.

Treated in hospital

Meanwhile, three people have been seriously injured in a crash on the St Clears to Laugharne Road in Carmarthenshire.

The injured are being treated in Glangwili Hospital, in Carmathen following the incident at 1925 BST on Friday.

The road was closed for over five hours.

Insp David Bizby, from Dyfed-Powys Police, said: "We would like to speak to anyone travelling along this road during this particular evening who may have witnessed this collision or anyone who may have information that could help the police investigation".
