Fusiliers march back to tradition

To celebrate the end of a two-year tour of duty in Northern Ireland, 80 Royal Welch Fusiliers will follow a special tradition by marching across north Wales.

The, serving with the 1st Battalion The Royal Welch Fusiliers, will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors on Saturday and march through villages from Holyhead to Wrexham.

It is exactly 108 years since their predecessors arrived back home having completed their own tour of duty across the Irish sea.

And like them, today's fusiliers will embark on an eight day march through towns and villages in north Wales which have all maintained strong links with the battalion.

It will be a demanding test for the soldiers, who will cover around 25 miles a day.

En route they will collect money for local charities and the march will finish with a grand parade through Wrexham.

There they will be joined by a regimental band and their goat mascot, Billy.
