Charge over fancy dress killing

Gareth Davies

Police have charged a 23-year-old man with the manslaughter of man who was attacked while in fancy dress as a Ghostbuster 21 months ago.

Gareth Davies from Llangibby, near Usk in Monmouthshire, was assaulted in the car park of a Cwmbran pub in October 2007 and later died in hospital.

Gwent Police said a man was due to appear before Newport magistrates next week.

An inquest held into Mr Davies' death recorded a verdict of unlawful killing.

Mr Davies died in hospital three days after the incident in the Wetherpoon's pub car park between 0030 - 0130 GMT on Sunday, 28 October, 2007.

He had been attending a fancy dress party that evening, and was raising money for the football team he played for, Pontnewydd United.

Two 22-year-old men were previously released without charge after questioning.
