Areas of mid, north and south Wales are expected to see snowfall overnight, although the country is likely to miss the worst of the wintry weather.
Up to 2in (5cm) of snow is predicted for higher ground in Wales, with up to 8in (20cm) in other parts of the UK.
The heaviest forecast is in north-east Wales, with accumulations on the Clwydian hills, Denbighshire moors and Halkyn mountain.
Parts of the south Wales valleys and Powys could see 0.75in (2cm) of snow.
Heavy rain is also forecast for south Wales, and it could turn to ice in places where it falls on cold ground leaving icy roads for Thursday morning commuters.
BBC Wales meteorologist Derek Brockway said: "Some parts of Wales will see some snow, but we're not going to get snowed in.
'Wintry mix'
"Which I know will disappoint some people hoping for a day off work or school tomorrow.
"There'll be a wintry mix on Wednesday night, with heavy rain, snow, strong winds and icy roads.
"Parts of mid, north and south Wales are most likely to see the snow."
Whilst Wales misses most of the bad weather, forecasters said blizzards were set to blow across most of Scotland, northern England and the north Midlands on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
The accompanying strong winds led weather forecasters to warn of a risk of drifting in many parts which will make rush-hour driving on Thursday difficult.
