A stretch of the M4 has reopened after a fatal crash between a lorry and car saw it closed in the Newport area.
The westbound stretch was closed between junction 24 (Coldra) and junction 26 (Malpas Road) and was shut for nearly seven hours.
The eastbound carriageway had been shut at junction 28 (Tredegar House) to junction 24 (Coldra) but was reopened after nearly five hours.
The crash at 0440 GMT killed a 24-year-old local man who was in the car.
Gwent Police said: "The incident involved two vehicles, a silver Seat hatchback car and a tanker lorry.
"It has been confirmed that there was one fatality.
"A 24 year old male from the Gwent area was pronounced dead at the scene, this person was travelling in the car."
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway with appeals for witnesses by police.
In particular anyone who saw the car travelling on the M4 before the crash is asked to contact officers.
