Woman's body found at quarry site

Mountain rescue teams have recovered the body of a 61-year-old woman from a remote quarry in Gwynedd.

They were called to the Moel Tryfan quarry near the village of Rhosgadfan, Caernarfon, at 1940 BST on Tuesday.

Twenty members of Llanberis mountain rescue were involved in the operation, in heavy rain and low cloud.

North Wales Police say that the woman is known to have lived locally, but stressed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

It is understood that the body of the woman was discovered in a pool at the quarry, after concerns were raised about her whereabouts.

Police said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death was continuing.
