Road-runner ram shot with Taser

A ram running loose on a busy dual carriageway was subdued by police with a 50,000-volt Taser stun gun.

North Wales Police said officers had to deploy the weapon to protect motorists on the A55 expressway.

The rogue ram had been running across both carriageways of the route, one of Wales' busiest roads, at St Asaph.

The animal was uninjured and was returned to its field by the farmer who owned it after the alert on Wednesday afternoon, officers said.

A police spokesperson said the force received "numerous calls" reporting the ram as a major disruption and possible danger to motorists.

The spokesperson said: "Officers attended and to ensure the safety of the motorists a decision was made to utilise the Taser.

"This was successfully done and the ram was then returned to its owner uninjured. The ram was later returned to the farmer's field."

In September last year the force's chief constable, Richard Brunstrom volunteered to be a target for a Taser so he could feel the effects of the weapon.

He was hit for less than two seconds and said afterwards that people who disobeyed officers armed with Tasers would "not enjoy the consequences".
